HELPING ST. LOUIS CORGIS

Pet's Second Chance, Inc. was founded in 2000 by Linda Moore as a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Located in St. Louis, Missouri, our dedication is to the many Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis or Corgi mixes who have been abandoned by their owners due to divorce, moving, birth of children, and the many other reasons that families may no longer be able to keep their Corgi. We will accept all Corgis regardless of age or physical condition. Many of our Corgis do come from shelters. Linda is a member of the Gateway Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, The St. Louis Herding Club, the Gaitway Agility Club, and on the Board of Metro Animal Resources.

THE WONDERFUL CORGI

St.Louis Corgi Rescue

Corgis are a herding breed. They possess all of the wonderful traits that have made them outstanding herd dogs for centuries: intelligence, self - confidence, a great sense of humor, general good health, loyalty, and a willingness to please. All of these traits make them great herders, agility dogs, trackers, and family dogs for the right family. They are a working breed and are at their best with a job to do. Herding, agility, tracking, or just keeping the squirrels out of the yard are all good jobs for your Corgi. Although there are a few Corgi Couch Potatoes, they are not in the majority. Plan on spending quality active time with your Corgi. If you are not into competitive dog sports, chasing a ball or Frisbee, or a long fast walk will keep your Corgi happy. Obedience training is a must.

Corgis are very intelligent and want to please you. Channel their energy into doing all of the right things. They excel at obedience. Positive reinforcement obedience training is great for Corgis. Most are food and praise motivated. No choke chains or hard snaps are needed. You may discover that your Corgi is smarter than your neighbors!

St.Louis Corgi Rescue

There are books and web sites that can provide lots of information on the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. See our links for a few informational sites. We are not here to reinvent the wheel. We believe that our time is better served working with the Corgis. Please, do your research before applying to adopt a Corgi. Corgis are not a dog for the faint of heart. Please note that we only place our Corgis in the METROPOLITAN SAINT LOUIS AREA. We do not ship and we do require home visits and a contract before placing a dog. All dogs are placed in foster homes for evaluation. Each dog receives all medical care needed from heartworm treatment to broken legs. Each receives all vaccinations, a microchip, and is spayed/neutered. A medical history is supplied with each Corgi adopted.
